Between spring and summer semesters, the Office of Technology and Digital Innovation (OTDI) and various tool vendors will make updates and improvements to Ohio State’s teaching and learning toolset. The Office of Technology and Digital Innovation (OTDI) announced a Request for Proposals (RFP) in December 2023 for an enterprise-wide proctoring tool or tools to support teaching and learning at the university. Several vendors submitted bids, and an evaluation committee made up of representatives from across the university assessed and tested the vendors’ proctoring tools. The evaluation committee recommended Ohio State pursue a contract with Honorlock and continue using the Respondus Lockdown Browser tool.
While some instructors have turned to proctoring software such as Proctori o in hopes of preventing or identifying academic misconduct, others have deliberately avoided these types of tools. We interviewed instructors from across campus to find out their reasoning for avoiding online proctoring and what measures they hav e in place to ensure academic integrity .
There are several enhancements in the works for CarmenCanvas, as well as other programs designed to improve the teaching and learning experience at Ohio State. Integrated software like Mediasite and Turnitin will see improvements; new services for lab notes and academic integrity have been launched; and incoming freshmen will be equipped with new technology.
