Copilot with Data Protection Now Available to University Faculty and Staff
OTDI recently enabled Copilot with commercial data protection, a secure version of the Copilot AI tool that can be used by university faculty and staff.
Copilot is a chatbot that uses public online data to provide you with information. The main benefit of logging in with your Ohio State credentials to use Copilot with commercial data protection is additional security. In addition, when you log in conversations aren’t stored and Microsoft can’t access any customer data.
The Administrative Resource Center has Copilot training materials to help you get started.
The use of generative artificial intelligence tools, like Copilot and ChatGPT, has increased rapidly over the past few years and will continue to grow. Ohio State policies regarding how AI tools can be utilized in our educational spaces will require ongoing updates as the technology evolves.
- The Office of Academic Affairs has provided guidance about artificial intelligence and academic integrity.
- Digital Security and Trust within the Office of Technology and Digital Innovation (OTDI) has released a security and privacy statement that offers guidance about the security and privacy of information AI tools collect, especially as it pertains to university data and use of institutional data.
We have not yet released Copilot with commercial data protection for students and sponsored guests. Microsoft documentation that references Copilot for Enterprise and Copilot for Microsoft 365 does not apply to Ohio States Copilot service.
