Urgent Update for All Web Browsers, Macs, iPhones, and iPads
All users are encouraged to install an urgent security update to all web browsers (on all devices) as well as an OS update on Mac devices, iPhones and iPads as soon as possible to their most current supported versions (i.e. MacOS 13.6 and iOS 17.0.2). This urgent update is being recommended as a security precaution after a vulnerability was discovered in previous versions.
To update your iPhone, iPad or Mac:
- Plug your device into power and connect to the Internet with Wi-Fi.
- Go to Settings (System Settings on Macs), then General, then Software Update.
- Click Update Now.
This update will take about 30 minutes to complete.
Your local IT team may manage OS updates on your university-owned devices.
In addition to the OS updates, MITS partners' devices that are managed by OTDI will see prompts for web browser updates. The update prompts will notify users that they need to close their browsers within a certain timeframe to begin the update.
To update your Web Browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, etc.):
- Open your Web Browser.
- Go to Settings, then About.
- If updates are pending you may have to select Relaunch.
This update process will take about 5 minutes to complete.
