New Data Catalog Tool Coming Soon
In December 2019, the Enterprise Project, in coordination with Wexner Medical Center, Advancement, and other key data intensive units, purchased Collibra. The Collibra application helps to support Ohio State's understanding of data assets and rules via capabilities within data cataloging and data governance.
Collibra replaces earlier data cataloging tools such as, the university's Data Cookbook and Wexner Medical Center’s IBM InfoSphere Information Governance Catalog. The new software package will act as a business glossary, data catalog and data dictionary, a repository of information on university and Wexner Medical Center data.
Collibra is currently being used by many large academic and corporate entities including Harvard, Stanford, UC Davis Medical Center, Adobe and JPMorgan Chase, to name a few.
The Enterprise Project Data Governance Team is leading the Collibra implementation in full partnership with the Wexner Medical Center and other university units.
When will Collibra be available?
A Collibra soft launch will occur in late March 2020, with additional phases planned for June and October 2020.
What will Collibra provide for Enterprise Project Release 1?
For Enterprise Project Release 1, Collibra will house information on a set of available Workday reports and Tableau dashboards, fields, and definitions, as well as metadata from the Reporting and Analytics environment (RAE) data sets. Data governance processes and planning for the expansion of Collibra beyond Release 1 will occur over the next several months.
Who should complete Collibra training and how will they access it?
If you are part of the university's data governance program or working on the Collibra project and want to know more about how you might use the new data catalog tool then Collibra training may be for you.
Collibra offers extensive online training through an Ohio State training portal to anyone with an osu.edu email address. For more information review the instructions in Box for creating a Collibra Passport Account completing courses.
Collibra access requests will be managed through ServiceNow beginning in May 2020.
